Updates in PINK This week
Include the fact that no client health information or client health records will be stored online. That I will keep client confidentiality to the strictest of standards and utilize only offline charting, notes, and documentation and offline records of manual bookeeping information to make it a non-issue. They will be date/time stamped with a manual device similar to an online charting program that will allow for completely authentic and unedited records.
Include information about infection control, what I'm doing to protect the client, and issues similar to how one would expect to encounter a medical professional in an outpatient environment.
Explain about housecalls and the old-fashioned approach.
List Services, Rates, Client Forms, Policies, Hours, Scheduling, Gift Certificates, Specials, Promotions, Products, and Blog
Spell out clearly the policy for payment/reimbursement for services. Give discounts for payment via paypal available online prior to providing service. That way it`s clear, secure, straight-forward and out of the way.
It is my policy not to accept tips since I approach providing massage and bodywork as healthcare the same way a doctor or a nurse does not receive tips for their services. If you feel you still want to tip, what I can do is reduce the rate of your next appointment by the difference of the tip amount for the follow up appointment booking.

If the client does not currently have a primary care provider (PCP) or health insurance, then I will refer the client out to MDs, NP's, D.O.s, or PA's to establish a primary care provider relationship in which they can assist the client to make the proper referrals.
On my referral page, I supply a list of related massage and health practitioners who specialize in certain medical conditions, modalities, and populations that are either out of my scope of practice and/or are in the best interest of the client to receive the specialized care they deserve such as Chiropractors, Naturopathic Doctors, and specialists holding advanced training in Oncology Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Pediatric Massage, etc.
Ideally, the best and most responsible health care is integrated care and ideally, all referrals should start with the primary care provider's full knowledge and awareness, recommendations, and input. The PCP sees the biggest picture and knows the existing medical conditions of their patients. He or she also has the appropriate power and authority to refer out to appropriate licensed and unlicensed health care professionals.
Since I am trained in a lot of different healing modalities and skill sets, it goes without saying that there are many ways to address a client's presenting health issues. Some are speedier than others. Some are less expensive and more efficient than others, and so on. Discernment, ethics and integrity become prominent issues in such cases to determine what is best for the client's health in addition to the client's participation and choices in their health.
It's my policy upon intake completion to assess and determine with the client the most appropriate, efficient, complete, cost-effective and expedited way to address the client's health issues ensuring the best and safest possible outcome. This may result in myself addressing the client's health issues or referring out in part or in total to another provider or providers.
I do not use email for communicating with clients. Only phone, post mail or text message. I don't have the available time for checking emails and I find text messages and phone are more personable as well as professional anyhow.
HIPAA & PRIVACY POLICIES:
I follow the rules for HIPAA as described in the government website:
No client information is stored online in any way. All client charts are kept in manual form locked up in my file cabinet at my place of residence. Due to all the security breeches in various online technology, I've decided to keep all client-related information in the most confidental, secure storage = offline and locked up.
PROVIDER DISCLOSURE POLICY:
It's my policy to advise all my clients to have full disclosure with their primary care providers of any medications, supplements, or other substances they ingest in order that the primary care provider may have the full picture of their patients health habits and history. I follow my own policy in this regard and my primary care provider, a local MD that has continually been updated of any supplements or medications I'm taking. The responsible position as a provider is to rely on honest communication and full disclosure when it comes to your health. In addition, many primary care providers have their own Registered Dieticians or in-house specialists that can cross-reference and check any potential dangers to your supplement or medication regimen. The old excuse of "Doctors don't know much about nutrition" no longer applies in that they have an established referral network in place to check for potential dangers with a supplement regimen. All of this is in place for client's protection.
Standard Precautions are used for direct contact with all my clients. If I learn that a person has a specific infection(s), then Contact, Airborne and/or Droplet Precautions will be added to the Standard Precautions according to the way each disease is transmitted.
I use CleanSmart disinfectant as my sanitizing agent since it kills 99.9% of germs and is of the comparable equivalent of hospital disinfectants without the use of any harsh chemicals. The ingredients used are all natural and extremely effective at killing H1N1, MRSA, HIV-1, Rhinovirus, Staph and Strep as well as other common viruses and bacteria according to the EPA's evaluation of the product.
